Verdict

The default answer, and for most small businesses the correct one. ChatGPT Business is the shortest distance between a problem written in plain English and an agent doing something about it, because the agent lives inside the product your staff already use for drafting and searching. Nobody has to learn a builder. The seat price is the whole price at this size: $20 per user per month billed annually, $25 if you pay by the month, minimum two seats. What you are buying is breadth. It will read, draft, research and run a browser session for almost any job you can describe, and it will do none of those jobs as well as a tool built for that one job. For a five person company with nine half automated jobs, breadth wins.

What customers praise

Nothing else on this list gets a non technical owner to a working agent faster. The setup cost is a conversation. Pricing is one number a bookkeeper can forecast, with no credits, no per conversation meter and no activity ledger to reconcile at month end, and the two seat minimum means a founder and one other person clears it. The agent will read a document, search the web, work through a spreadsheet and write the thing you asked for in one run, which covers the sales and marketing work the United States Census Bureau found is the most common place firms put AI first.

What customers criticise

It is a good agent in a thin environment. Reaching into the systems where your business actually runs, the invoicing, the scheduler, the inbox rules, the stock ledger, means connectors that are narrower than Zapier's and mostly read rather than write, so the last mile is still a person copying an answer into another window. There is no audit trail an accountant would accept and no approval step before an action, which matters the moment an agent touches money. And the price per seat only makes sense while the humans are the ones using it. Once the work runs unattended and overnight, you are paying for seats nobody sits in.

Best for

A United States small business that wants a working agent this afternoon, has nobody to build one, and would rather start with the tool its staff already open every day than buy a platform it has to configure first

Red flags

Public risk signals as of September 2026: none. Live product with seat pricing published on OpenAI's own help centre as of 12 September 2026. No adverse public signals found. Note for buyers: OpenAI's public pages block automated reads, so the prices here were taken from OpenAI's help centre rather than the marketing page, and a buyer should confirm at checkout.
