Verdict
For a large share of American small businesses this is the cheapest real AI they will ever buy, because they are most of the way to buying it already. Google now states Gemini inside the plan rather than beside it: Business Starter at $7.00 per user per month lists the Gemini assistant in Gmail and basic access to the Gemini app, and Business Standard at $14.00 adds the assistant across Gmail, Docs, Meet and more, expanded Gemini Notebook and expanded model access. A five person company on Business Standard is paying $70 a month for the email, the storage, the video calls and the AI together. Bought separately those are three invoices and a training problem.
What customers praise
Adoption is the hard part of small business AI and this removes it. Nobody has to open a new tab, learn a new interface or remember a new password, because the assistant appears inside the tools the business already opens every morning. The price ladder is published in full, the steps are small, and moving from Starter to Standard is a decision an owner can make in a minute. It also keeps the company's documents and mail in one place rather than pasting them into a second vendor, which is the quiet compliance argument.
What customers criticise
Convenient is not the same as capable, and on the hardest single task the standalone assistants still pull ahead. The Gemini entitlements differ by tier in ways the pricing page describes in feature names rather than in limits, so an owner cannot tell from the page how much AI $7.00 actually buys before something throttles. The 300 user ceiling on Business plans is irrelevant to most readers here but it is a real wall for a fast growing company. And the whole argument collapses if the business runs on Microsoft, in which case entry five is your answer and this one is not.
Best for
A small business already running on Gmail, Docs and Meet that wants AI where the work already is and does not want a second subscription or a second login
