Verdict

Protégé is the Lexis answer to CoCounsel and it connects to almost the same places. LexisNexis names iManage, SharePoint, NetDocuments, OpenText and Google Drive for documents, and Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams, Outlook and Microsoft 365 Copilot for the work itself. It drafts legal documents with linked LexisNexis sources directly in Word, which is the detail that matters to a partner signing the brief. If you used Lexis+ AI, LexisNexis says you now have Lexis+ with Protégé. It ranks just behind CoCounsel because it names no practice management system, so the matter record still has to be updated by a person.

What customers praise

OpenText is on its list, which no other entry here names, and that matters to the larger firms that run it. The 2 day free trial is short but it is stated, which is more than Harvey or CoCounsel manage. The return figure LexisNexis quotes, 344 percent over three years for law firms, comes from a Forrester study LexisNexis commissioned, and it is labelled that way here.

What customers criticise

No price on either page we read. No practice management system is named, so deadlines, time and matter notes stay a manual job. The 344 percent figure is a commissioned study, not an independent one. The rename from Lexis+ AI to Lexis+ with Protégé means older reviews describe a product that no longer carries that name.

Best for

A firm on Lexis rather than Westlaw that drafts in Word and wants the citations to travel with the draft into its document management system.
