Verdict

CoCounsel names more of a law firm's own systems than any other product on this page. Thomson Reuters lists iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint and Box for documents, Smokeball and Litify for practice management, Word, Outlook and Teams for the daily work, HighQ and DeepJudge, and Claude through MCP. It reasons from Westlaw content, Practical Law guidance and your organisation's own knowledge, and the Essentials tier runs document analysis and drafting from the web into Microsoft Word. For a firm whose authority already comes from Westlaw, that is the shortest distance between a research question and a cited paragraph in the brief. What keeps it at three is the price. There is none on the page, terms run one to three years, and the plans page sends any firm with more than 10 attorneys to a sales rep.

What customers praise

Fourteen named connections, including both of the document management systems most United States firms run on, and two practice management systems, Smokeball and Litify. Output arrives in Word, Outlook and Teams rather than in a separate window. The two vendor figures, 76 percent agreeing research and drafting quality improved and a 33 percent average reduction in time, are labelled as vendor claims here and come with no published method.

What customers criticise

No figure anywhere we could read on 1 October 2026. The pricing route asks for your role and line of work before it shows a quote, says online pricing is for new customers only, and pushes you to a two or three year term for a discount. A five lawyer firm cannot plan a budget from that. The trial link carries no stated length. The quality and time figures are Thomson Reuters' own, and the one case study claiming five times the return is a single firm.

Best for

A litigation or advisory firm that lives in Westlaw and Word, keeps documents in iManage or NetDocuments, and wants research and drafting to arrive in those places.
