Linxup vs Azuga vs ClearPathGPS: 11 Best GPS Vehicle Tracking Software 2026
This ranking covers GPS tracking for small and mid-size fleets: live location, alerts and geofences, price clarity, hardware and contract terms, scored on what each vendor's own pages show.
The short answer
The best GPS vehicle tracking software for most small and mid-size fleet owners is Linxup, followed by Azuga and ClearPathGPS. Linxup and Azuga are the only two with per-vehicle prices published on the pages we opened, $25 and $25 to $35 a month. Geotab, Verizon Connect, Samsara, GPS Insight, Teletrac Navman, Rastrac and Motive show no price on the pages we could read, so quote only.

The wildcard · #11
Unrated by designSpytec GPS
This is the cheapest published way I found to put live tracking on a few vehicles, with the hardware thrown in.
The ten above are scored against the public rubric. The wildcard answers a different question, so it carries no score. It is selected by the wildcard signal model (wildcard-v2.0), read 2026-10-12.
- Under-the-radar coefficientstrong
- Fleet plans from $8.95 per vehicle per month with free hardware and tracking sit far below the $25 to $35 published by the other vendors on this list that show a number.
- Impact densitystrong
- Five vehicles would start at about $44.75 a month on the 'from' price, with no hardware purchase stated, though the page does not say which tier that price covers.
- Category fit anomalynotable
- The brand is built around personal and portable trackers, and the fleet plan sits as one section of that page rather than a dedicated fleet product.
- Ceiling distancenotable
- The page lists no maintenance module, ELD, API or reporting library, so a growing fleet will reach the ceiling sooner than on Linxup or Azuga.
- Price integrity under growthmixed
- The price is annual-billed and described as 'from', and volume discounts start at five devices, so the bill at your own size needs confirming in writing.
Right for
The owner of a 3 to 15 vehicle crew who needs to see where trucks are and wants geofence alerts for the lowest monthly cost.
Wrong for
A fleet that needs ELD, driver coaching, dash cams or an open API on the same contract.

Buyer's guide6 questions
What is GPS vehicle tracking software?
GPS vehicle tracking software shows where each vehicle is, where it has been and what it is doing, using a small device in the vehicle that reports over a cellular network to a web dashboard and usually a mobile app. The basic features are a live map, trip history with breadcrumb trails, geofences that alert you when a vehicle enters or leaves a place, and reports on stops, speed and idling. Beyond that the market splits. Some products are simple trackers with an app, such as Spytec's Hapn app and the Bouncie plug-in adapter. Others are full fleet platforms such as Geotab, Verizon Connect, Samsara and Motive, which add driver scoring, maintenance reminders, ELD logging and cameras. For a small fleet the right starting point is usually the first group or the entry tier of the second.
How is this different from fleet management software?
Fleet management software is a wider category that treats location as one input among many, alongside compliance, fuel, safety video and maintenance. This list starts from the tracker. It asks how often location updates, how easy the device is to install, what alerts and reports are included, and whether the price and contract are stated. A vendor that sells an excellent camera can still rank low here if its tracking page shows no price or plan detail. Many vendors on this list also sell fleet management, and where the page we opened mentioned maintenance, ELD or cameras we note it without scoring it heavily.
What does a tracker cost beyond the monthly fee?
Three costs matter: the hardware, the contract and the add-ons. Linxup states $69 for a standard plug-in tracker on a month-to-month plan, or free on a 3-year contract, and says there is no activation fee. Spytec says hardware is included free with a plan. ClearPathGPS says no upfront hardware cost on qualifying plans and no long-term contracts. Azuga's page states no contract or setup-fee terms, so ask. Add-ons such as dash cams are priced separately where a price is shown at all: ClearPathGPS lists $30 a month and Azuga lists $41.99 a month for its AI camera. Always price the vehicle count you have, plus the add-ons you intend to buy.
Plug-in or hardwired trackers?
An OBD II plug-in tracker goes into the diagnostic port under the dash and needs no tools. Geotab describes its GO device this way, and Spytec, Linxup and Bouncie list plug-in options. It is fast to install and easy to move between vehicles, but it can also be unplugged by a driver, which matters if the reason for tracking is unauthorized use. A hardwired tracker connects to the vehicle's 12V power and is harder to remove. Spytec and ClearPathGPS list hardwired options. Battery or solar-powered trackers, which Linxup and ClearPathGPS list, are for trailers and equipment with no power source. Choose by what you are tracking and who might tamper with it.
How often should a tracker update location?
Update frequency decides whether the map is useful for dispatch or only for history. The one vendor that stated it per plan was Azuga: every 2 minutes on BasicFleet, every 1 minute on SafeFleet and every 30 seconds on CompleteFleet. Most other pages we read did not state an interval. For a delivery or service fleet where you call the nearest truck, a minute or better is worth asking for in writing. For a fleet that mostly needs to know where vehicles park overnight, two minutes is likely enough. The interval also affects battery drain on portable devices, so ask for the interval on the exact device you will buy.
Do I need dash cams and ELD with my tracker?
Not necessarily. Dash cams add cost and require a tracking unit on the vehicle, as Linxup states, and they are priced separately by every vendor that shows a price. An ELD, or electronic logging device, is required only for vehicles and drivers covered by hours-of-service rules, which mainly means commercial trucks. If your vehicles are vans, pickups or service cars outside those rules, you can buy tracking alone and add cameras later. Check that the vendor can add them without replacing the tracker, and what each costs, before committing to a multi-year contract.
How to choose
- 1First, decide what you are tracking. Vans and pickups with an OBD II port suit a plug-in tracker; trailers, generators and equipment need a battery or solar asset tracker, which is priced separately by every vendor that sells one.
- 2Second, ask for the all-in monthly price for your vehicle count: tracker, plan, any cameras, and any activation or hardware charge. Only Linxup, Azuga and Spytec published a number on the pages we read, so for the others the quote is the first piece of information you will receive.
- 3Third, read the contract term. Linxup offers no contract, 2-year and 3-year terms with different hardware costs. ClearPathGPS states no long-term contracts. Where a page is silent, ask for the cancellation terms and the cost of ending early in writing.
- 4Fourth, test the alerts in a trial or demo: set a geofence around your yard, move a vehicle through it, and see how fast the alert arrives and who receives it. Then run the report you will need each month.
- 5Finally, ask who owns the location history and whether you can export it, and whether the API you may want later is on your plan or a higher one, since ClearPathGPS puts open API access on Pro and Azuga puts it on SafeFleet and above.
Frequently asked6 answers
How much does GPS vehicle tracking cost?
On the pages we opened, published prices ran from $8.95 to $35 per vehicle per month. Spytec lists fleet plans from $8.95 per vehicle per month billed annually. Linxup lists $25 per vehicle per month for GPS vehicle tracking. Azuga lists BasicFleet at $25, SafeFleet at $30 and CompleteFleet at $35. ClearPathGPS, Geotab, Verizon Connect, GPS Insight, Samsara, Teletrac Navman and Motive showed no price on the pages we could read, so quote only. Rastrac describes its RastracFusion product as less than $1 a day but gives no plan prices.
Is there a no-contract GPS tracker for fleets?
Two vendors state this. Linxup lists No Contract, 2-year and 3-year terms for each product, and ClearPathGPS says no long-term contracts with monthly billing. Linxup's no-contract plan charges $69 for a standard plug-in tracker, while the 3-year plan makes it free. Spytec and Azuga pages did not state a contract length. A no-contract plan usually costs more in hardware or in monthly fees than a multi-year term, so compare the total over the period you expect to keep the vehicles.
Can I track vehicles without buying hardware?
Rastrac offers RastracFusion, which connects to factory-embedded vehicle systems with no hardware or installation, with real-time tracking, engine diagnostics and maintenance alerts, and a 3-month free trial offer on the page that ends November 30, 2026. Whether your vehicles are supported is a question for the vendor. Other vendors here ship a device, and some, like Spytec and ClearPathGPS, state that hardware is free or has no upfront cost with a plan.
Do I need a cellular plan for the tracker?
The tracker reports over a cellular network, and the vendors we read include that connectivity in their service fee rather than selling it separately. Bouncie describes a 4G LTE adapter and warns that if the adapter loses wireless service no data is transmitted. Ask each vendor what happens in areas without coverage and whether the tracker stores data and sends it when service returns.
How long does installation take?
We did not find installation times stated as a number on the pages we read, so we publish none. Geotab and Spytec describe OBD II plug-in installation as needing no tools, which suggests minutes per vehicle, but hardwired installation takes longer. Ask each vendor whether they offer installation support and whether it costs extra.
What happens to my data if I leave?
Export terms were not stated on the pages we read, so we cannot rate them. Before you sign, ask whether you can export trip history, stops, alerts and reports in a usable format such as CSV, how long the vendor keeps history after you cancel, and whether the API is available on your plan.
How this was scored
Every entry is scored on a 9.4-point scale across 6 weighted criteria, reviewed quarterly. Top 11 takes no payment from any provider on this list. Scores come from a public weighted rubric, and the methodology weights were locked before entry research began. Re-scored every 90 days.
- Every price and feature in this list comes from a vendor page opened on 2026-10-12. If a page returned an error, redirected, or showed no number, we say so and publish no price. We did not use review sites for facts.
- Several vendors could not be read. GoFleet's pricing page returned HTTP 404 on both attempts. Fleet Complete returned HTTP 403, and its page could not be read. Zonar and GPS Trackit redirected to another host and were not followed, and Bouncie's page showed no price, so none of the three is ranked. Vendors dropped for these reasons are not on the list.
- Several ranked vendors' first-choice URLs returned HTTP 404 (Geotab, Verizon Connect, GPS Insight), so we read their home pages instead. Home pages carry less detail than product pages, which may understate them. Motive's pricing page returned only a regional prompt.
- Founding year, headquarters, headcount and funding weren't read on the vendor pages, so those fields are left empty rather than filled in from memory.
- Prices are per vehicle per month but cover different things. Linxup's $25 excludes the $69 tracker on a month-to-month plan, Azuga's tiers differ in update frequency, and Spytec's $8.95 is a 'from' price billed annually. They are not directly comparable, so price them at your own fleet size.
- Azuga's page lists its AI camera add-on at $41.99 a month in one place and a headline of $49.99 a month for a dual-facing camera in another, and does not reconcile the two. Confirm in writing.
- Scores are an AI editorial judgement against the published rubric, using only the pages we read. Entries without published prices score lower on Pricing Transparency by design. That's a statement about the page, not the product.
- No vendor has paid for placement. Scores are not a measure of customer satisfaction.
