Under-the-radar coefficientstrong
Delivery focused comparisons rarely include a sales mapping product, though field service managers who also run account visits may need one.
Category fit anomalyexceptional
Its pricing page is organized around sales features such as CRM objects, lead generation and territory alignment rather than orders or drivers.
Lock-in coststrong
Plans are listed as billed annually or monthly, and a 90 day money back guarantee is offered to teams of two or more licenses.
Time-to-first-value driftstrong
A 14 day trial and a free team pilot with CRM integration setup are listed on the pricing page.
Ceiling distancestrong
Route optimization is listed at up to 120 stops on the Personal plan, and no proof of delivery or dispatch tooling appears in the plan lists.
Impact densitymoderate
Per user pricing of $58 to $109 a month is justified only for staff who plan visits all day.

Right for

Buyer's guide

What is route optimization software?

Route optimization software takes a list of stops, the drivers and vehicles available, and the rules that apply, such as delivery time windows and load capacity, and builds the sequence of stops each driver should follow. Most products also send the route to a driver mobile app, show dispatchers where drivers are, and message customers. The vendors in this list differ mainly in how deep the planning goes, how much of the day after planning the product runs, and how they charge for it.

Route planner or full dispatch platform?

A route planner builds the day once and hands it off. A dispatch platform keeps working while the day unfolds: it assigns new tasks to drivers, tracks progress, collects proof of delivery and updates customers. Onfleet and Track-POD sit closer to the dispatch end, with auto dispatch, command center views and electronic proof of delivery on their published plans. Spoke Dispatch and Upper Route Planner are more focused on planning with lighter dispatch features on their entry tiers. Decide which gap hurts more before you compare prices.

Why does the pricing model matter so much?

The same fleet can cost very different amounts depending on how the vendor counts. OptimoRoute charges per driver, RouteManager per vehicle, Routific and Spoke Dispatch by orders or stops, Onfleet by monthly tasks, and Track-POD offers both per driver and per order plans. A business with a stable crew and swinging volume usually prefers a per driver or per vehicle price. A business with a swinging crew and steady volume usually prefers a per order price. Work out your own busiest and quietest month before choosing.

How do routing products differ from vehicle telematics?

Telematics products such as those from Verizon Connect centre on vehicles: where they are, how they are driven, and when they stop. Route optimization products centre on the plan: which stops, in which order, for which driver. Some telematics vendors add routing, and some routing vendors add live tracking, so the two overlap. If you already own tracking hardware, check whether routing from the same vendor is enough before adding another system. We cover vehicles and driver safety in a separate list on fleet management software.

What is not covered by this ranking?

We scored published capability and published price, not hands on performance. We did not time how fast each product solves a large route, and we did not test driver apps on devices. A vendor with a clear public page can outscore a vendor with a stronger product and a quiet website. That is deliberate, because buyers can only act on what they can verify, but it means a trial in your own territory is still the real test.

How to choose

  1. 1First, count what you actually do in a month: drivers on the road, vehicles, orders or stops delivered, and peak days. Then price each vendor on their own unit, because per driver, per vehicle, per order and per task plans all price the same fleet differently.
  2. 2Second, list the constraints your routes really have: customer time windows, vehicle capacity, pickups as well as deliveries, multiple days, or several depots. Several vendors keep pickup and delivery, multi day routes or business rules on higher or custom plans, so check which plan holds your constraint.
  3. 3Third, decide how much of the day happens after the route is built. If you need proof of delivery with photos or signatures, live customer tracking links, or auto dispatch for same day orders, confirm those are on the plan you intend to buy, not only on a higher tier.
  4. 4Fourth, check how orders get in. If your orders come from Shopify, a spreadsheet or your own system, confirm the import path and whether API or webhook access is included on your plan or reserved for an enterprise tier.
  5. 5Fifth, run the free trial with a real day of stops. Trial lengths on the pages we read range from 7 days to 30 days, and some vendors state none, so ask before you start so you can finish the test.
  6. 6Finally, ask about contract terms. OptimoRoute states month to month terms, while several vendors publish only a starting price, so confirm minimum commitments, overage rates and what happens when you exceed a plan limit.
Frequently asked

How much does route optimization software cost?

It depends on the unit. From the pages we opened on 2026-10-11: Routific is free up to 100 orders a month and $150 a month up to 1,000 orders; OptimoRoute is $35.10 to $44.10 per driver per month on annual billing; Route4Me is $199 to $349 a month; Spoke Dispatch is $125 to $1,000 a month by stops included; Onfleet starts at $619 a month; RouteManager starts at $54 per vehicle per month with a 4 vehicle minimum; Track-POD is $49 to $99 per driver per month, or per order plans from $510 a month; and Upper is $40 to $89 per user per month on annual billing. Verizon Connect and Descartes did not publish prices on the pages we opened.

Is there a free route optimization option?

Routific lists a free plan for up to 100 orders a month. Several others offer trials rather than free plans: OptimoRoute offers 30 days with no credit card, Onfleet 14 days, Upper 7 days on Professional features, Badger Maps 14 days, and Track-POD a free trial with no card. Spoke Dispatch states that an unlimited version is available as a trial and rolls over to a paid plan if you do not cancel, so read the terms before you start.

Which tools include proof of delivery?

Routific lists photo, signature and barcode proof of delivery. Onfleet lists photo and signature proof on Launch. Track-POD lists electronic proof of delivery with digital signatures, and 20 pictures per order on Ultimate. OptimoRoute includes proof of delivery on Pro. Route4Me lists proof of delivery or service on its entry plan. RouteManager lists proof of job completion. Upper adds proof of delivery from Professional. Spoke Dispatch lists basic proof with 5 photos on Starter and 10 on Premium.

Can I pay by the delivery instead of by the driver?

Yes. Routific says you pay for orders delivered, not per driver or vehicle. Spoke Dispatch charges by stops included with overage per extra stop. Track-POD sells per order plans from $510 a month for 3,000 orders, or $0.17 per order on its smallest plan. Onfleet bills by monthly task volume. If your driver count changes through the year, these are the models to price first.

Which software suits a very small fleet?

On published numbers, Routific's free plan and Spoke Dispatch at $125 a month have the lowest entry cost, and both state unlimited drivers. Track-POD's per driver plans require at least 3 drivers, and RouteManager requires at least 4 vehicles, so owner operators should look elsewhere. We did not time or test the products, so use the trials.

Why are Verizon Connect and Descartes ranked lower?

Because of what could be read, not what the products can do. The Verizon Connect page we opened described field service routing and geofenced job tracking but showed no price, and the Descartes pages gave no price, plan limits or integrations. Our rubric gives 20% of the weight to pricing transparency and scores unpublished integrations and limits low. Both vendors may be strong fits for enterprise buyers who work through a sales process.

Why is a sales mapping tool on a delivery list?

The #11 slot is an unrated wildcard chosen by a separate signal model, to show something readers might not search for. Badger Maps plans visit routes for field sales teams with CRM sync. It is not a delivery dispatch tool, which is why it is unrated and not in the ranked ten.

How this was scored

Every entry is scored on a 9.4-point scale across 6 weighted criteria, reviewed quarterly. Top 11 takes no payment from any provider on this list. Scores are computed from a public weighted rubric; methodology weights were locked before entry research began. Re-scored every 90 days.

  • Scores reflect what each vendor publishes, read on 2026-10-11. We did not run hands on tests, time solver speed, or install driver apps. Treat the order as a shortlist, not a benchmark.
  • Company founding year, headquarters and team size were not confirmed from the pages we opened, so those fields are left as not verified rather than filled from memory.
  • Verizon Connect and Descartes did not publish pricing on the pages we opened, so their price fields are empty and their pricing transparency scores are low. Their placement reflects limited public information, not a measured weakness.
  • Samsara did not yield a usable routing or pricing page when we checked, so it is not on this list. Circuit's Teams pricing address redirects to Spoke Dispatch, and WorkWave's RouteManager pricing address redirects to route-manager.com. We list those as Spoke Dispatch and RouteManager (WorkWave), as those are the pages we read.
  • Prices change often. Several vendors publish starting prices only, and many charge extra for SMS, tracking or barcode add ons. Confirm the quote for your own fleet.
Changelog
  1. Initial publication. Methodology v1.0 weights Route Optimization Depth (25%), Dispatch & Driver Execution (20%), Pricing Transparency & Cost Fit (20%), Integrations & API (15%), Customer Notifications & Proof (10%), and Scalability & Support (10%). The #11 wildcard is unrated, selected by the wildcard signal model (wildcard-v2.0).
