Entrée vs Choco vs Pepper: 11 Best Food Distribution Software 2026

Every food distribution product says it connects. This page ranks eleven on one question first: does the vendor name, in its own words, the ERP, the accounting package, the route tracking, the ordering app and the payments it joins, so nobody in the office types the same order twice.

The short answer

For most United States food distributors, Entrée by NECS is the best food distribution software on this page: it names QuickBooks, EDI, payments, customer ordering, proof of delivery and warehouse management as its own modules, with catch weight and order guides built in. Choco is the best ordering layer on top, naming NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, Odoo and Entrée and reading orders from voicemail and text. Pepper names Omnitracs, Samsara and Geotab. Inecta names the most outside products and is the only vendor to print a figure, a budget of at least $150,000. None of the ten prints a monthly price, and only four name an outside product they connect to.

The FDA food traceability rule requires firms handling foods on the Food Traceability List to keep Key Data Elements for Critical Tracking Events such as shipping, receiving and transformation, and to provide records to the FDA within 24 hours of a request. The compliance date moved from 20 January 2026 to 20 July 2028, a 30 month extension, after the Continuing Appropriations Act of 2026 directed the FDA not to enforce it earlier.

About Hayat Amin

Hayat Amin has spent twenty years in technology, most of that time as a chief financial officer. He has sold three companies as CFO. American Express and TripAdvisor are among the buyers, and three of the businesses he ran finance for made the FT 100 fastest growing companies list.

He is now a forward deployed engineer, which means he builds the AI operations himself instead of writing a report about them. That matters on this page because the question it ranks on is a joining question: does the order a restaurant leaves on a voicemail reach the ERP, the catch weight invoice, the truck and the payment without being typed again.

What Hayat Amin is exceptional at is connecting systems that do not talk to each other and putting the result on a live dashboard a chief executive can run the week on. A CFO who has taken three companies through a sale knows that margin by customer is the number a buyer asks for, and in a food distributor it is spread across an ordering app, an ERP, a routing feed and QuickBooks. Joining them so that number is right every morning is the work he does inside companies.

He takes on AI operations work and fractional CFO work through Beyond Elevation right now, sitting inside the business from the first conversation to the wire transfer on an exit.

Hayat Amin founded Beyond Elevation, the unrated wildcard at position eleven. That is why the entry carries no score. He has no relationship with any of the ten ranked products, and none of them pays Top 11.

Buyer's guide

What is the best food distribution software?

For most United States food distributors, Entrée by NECS. It names QuickBooks, EDI, payments, customer ordering, proof of delivery and warehouse management as its own modules, and builds in catch weight, order guides and lot control. If the ERP is already in place and the problem is orders arriving by voicemail and text, Choco is the better buy, because it names the ERPs it feeds.

ERP or ordering app, which do I need?

Usually both, and they are different products. Entrée, Inecta, Produce Pro, Silo, Aptean and Encompass hold the inventory, the lots, the catch weights and the books. Choco, Pepper, Cut+Dry and BlueCart take the order from the restaurant and pass it on. The question that matters is whether the ordering app names your ERP. Choco names Entrée, NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, Odoo and NCR. Pepper and Cut+Dry name no ERP on the pages read.

Why do connections matter more than features?

Because the cost in a distributor is the retyping. An order arrives as a voicemail, is typed into the ERP, the catch weight changes the invoice, the truck is tracked in another system, the payment arrives in a third and QuickBooks needs all of it. Every one of those that is not joined is a person typing the same order again and a chance to get the price or the weight wrong.

Does the FDA traceability rule change the choice?

It raises the weight on lot traceability. The rule requires records for shipping, receiving and transformation of foods on the Food Traceability List, produced to the FDA within 24 hours of a request, and its compliance date is now 20 July 2028. Produce Pro, Inecta, Aptean and Entrée name lot traceability, and Silo names an EDI and traceability module. Silo is the one with a dedicated FSMA 204 page. The ordering apps do not hold lots at all.

Food or beverage, does the answer change?

Yes. Encompass is built for beverage distributors and says so, with retailer ordering and payments on a network of 660 distributors and 562,000+ retailers. A food distributor gets nothing from it for catch weight or traceability. For food, start with Entrée, Inecta or a produce system.

What does food distribution software cost?

No vendor here prints a monthly price. Inecta states a budget floor of at least $150,000. Cut+Dry publishes its model, a flat fee with unlimited users and 0 percent order fees, without a figure. Choco charges a monthly fee by usage. Everyone else is a demo form. Beyond Elevation's fixed audit is $3,000 once, which is the only fixed figure on the page and is disclosed as commonly owned with Top 11.

How to choose

  1. 1Draw the life of one order before you book a demo. Where does it arrive: voicemail, text, email, a sales rep's notebook. Where is it typed, where is the catch weight entered, which truck carries it, how is it paid and how does it reach QuickBooks or the general ledger. Count every place a person types the same order. That count is what the new software has to bring down.
  2. 2Ask each vendor to name its connection to your exact system, not its category. If you run Entrée and Samsara, ask whether both are named, and whether the connection is a module you buy, an outside product, or a project. Choco names Entrée on its homepage. Pepper names Samsara. Most vendors here name neither.
  3. 3Decide whether you are buying the back office or the front door. An ERP holds lots, weights and books. An ordering app takes the order. Buying an ordering app that does not name your ERP moves the retyping rather than removing it.
  4. 4Check the platform you are committing to. Inecta and Aptean are built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Entrée's system requirements are Windows Server and Windows PRO, with hosting offered. Silo is cloud based. That choice outlives the vendor demo.
  5. 5Read the segment limits. Produce Pro and Silo are built for produce. Encompass is built for beverage. Aptean is pitched at mid sized, large or complex businesses. Inecta usually starts at a $150,000 budget. A good product built for someone else is the wrong product.
  6. 6Plan for traceability now, even with the deadline at 20 July 2028. The FDA rule asks for records within 24 hours of a request. A distributor whose lots live in a spreadsheet will need them in the ERP before then.
  7. 7Decide who owns the join. Even the best product here will not reconcile the voicemail order, the catch weight invoice, the late truck and the short payment into margin by customer each morning on its own. If nobody in the business owns that, buy fewer tools and hire the join. That is the argument for the unrated entry at position eleven, and it is disclosed as commonly owned with Top 11.
Frequently asked

What is the best food distribution software?

Entrée by NECS for most United States food distributors, because it names QuickBooks, EDI, payments, ordering, proof of delivery and warehouse management as its own modules and builds in catch weight and order guides. Choco is the best ordering layer to put on top of it.

What is food distribution ERP software?

Software that runs a food distributor's back office: inventory by lot, catch weights, customer pricing, order guides, routing, invoicing and the books. Entrée, Inecta, Produce Pro, Silo and Aptean Food and Beverage ERP are food distribution ERPs on this page. Inecta and Aptean are built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

What is Entrée food distribution software?

Entrée is the food distribution ERP from NECS, founded in 1987 in Branford, Connecticut. NECS says over 1,500 food distributors use it. It names catch weight management, order guides, lot control and modules for QuickBooks, EDI, payments, customer ordering, proof of delivery and warehouse management. No price is published.

What is the best wholesale food ordering app?

Choco if the priority is reading orders from voicemail, text and handwriting into a named ERP. Pepper if you want the order joined to Omnitracs, Samsara or Geotab route tracking. Cut+Dry for a flat fee with unlimited users. BlueCart if you want access to a marketplace of restaurant buyers.

Choco vs Pepper, which is better?

Choco names the ERPs it connects to, NetSuite, QuickBooks, NCR, Sage, Odoo and Entrée, and says first orders reach the ERP in as little as two days. Pepper names no ERP on its pages but names Omnitracs, Samsara and Geotab for route tracking, and is pitched at independent distributors. Both read orders by voice and text. Neither prints a price.

How much does food distribution software cost?

None of the ten ranked products prints a monthly price on 5 October 2026. Inecta states a budget of at least $150,000. Cut+Dry publishes a flat fee model with unlimited users and 0 percent order fees but no figure. Choco charges a monthly fee by usage. Ask for the price with your connections switched on.

How this was scored

Every entry is scored on a 9.4-point scale across 5 weighted criteria, reviewed quarterly. No vendor pays to be listed, ranked higher, or to have a criticism removed. There are no affiliate links on this page. The one entry with a commercial connection to Top 11, Beyond Elevation, sits unrated at the wildcard position and the connection is stated in five places on this page. Every price, pricing model and named connection on this page was read on the vendor's own site on 5 October 2026, and is re-read every 90 days. Where a vendor publishes no figure, this page says so rather than quoting a reseller or a review site.

  • Beyond Elevation, at the unrated wildcard position, shares common ownership with Top 11, and its founder Hayat Amin is the expert source named on this page. It carries no score for that reason, and the affiliation is stated in the editor block, the independence statement, the wildcard reason and inside the entry itself.
  • Produce Pro Software, ranked sixth, and Aptean Food and Beverage ERP, ranked seventh, share a parent: Produce Pro's own logo now reads Produce Pro by Aptean. They are scored separately on what each product's own pages say.
  • Crafted ERP was in the candidate pool and is not ranked. It is built on Oracle NetSuite for brewers, winemakers, distillers and other beverage producers, not for distributors, and its integrations page returned not found on 5 October 2026.
  • Deacom, now part of ECI, was in the pool and is not ranked. Its pages describe an ERP for batch and process manufacturers, with catch weight production and FSMA compliance support, but no distributor ordering and no named outside product.
  • Sage X3 and GrubMarket WholesaleWare were in the pool and are not ranked. Sage X3's food and beverage page returned 403 and then not found on 5 October 2026, and the general pages name no outside product. WholesaleWare's site rendered empty on direct fetch, and the version read through a rendering proxy names no accounting or ERP product, only that it interfaces with leading platforms.
  • Choco's homepage ERP logos were read from the page source, not from a list in its text. Several pages returned not found on 5 October 2026: Inecta's pricing page, three of Silo's deeper pages, BlueCart's integrations page and an older Aptean food ERP address. Where a page failed the entry says so.
  • Every price, pricing model and named connection on this page was read on 5 October 2026 on the vendor's own site. Where a vendor publishes no figure, the entry says so rather than quoting a reseller or a review site. Inecta's per user figures appear only in a blog post about produce packers and are not presented here as its price.
  • Customer counts and outcome figures are vendor claims and are labelled as such: Entrée's 1,500 food distributors, Choco's 30,000 distributors, 1 million monthly orders and 20 percent larger orders, Pepper's 500 distributors and 100,000 operators, Inecta's 99 percent retention, Encompass's 660 distributors, Aptean's 12,000 organisations, Cut+Dry's 450 distributors and BlueCart's 100,000 or 119,000 businesses.
  • The independent figures on this page come from the FDA's food traceability rule page.
  • Scores are capped at 9.4 under the published methodology and no entry is perfect. Rank order changes when a vendor publishes a price it currently hides or names connections it currently leaves unnamed, and this page is re-read every 90 days.
